Hampden

Hampden is a wacky, whimsical gem, that deserves to be celebrated.  Hampden’s hub is “The Avenue,” a street that stretches several blocks and contains everything from elite cocktail bars to funky clothing stores. For fans in the know- it is Hampden that is home to the “Hon Culture” made famous by John Water’s  hit musical Hairspray.  If you’re unclear on this, just check out the annual “Honfest” where The Avenue is shut down for foot traffic and huge hairdos.  Homes in this neighborhood tend to be very affordable, and many have the added benefit of small yards, a luxury not present in neighborhoods closer to the water.
